History
Marshfield was settled in 1632 from Plymouth and remained a quiet farming, fishing, and salt-marsh-haymaking town for two centuries. The 19th-century statesman Daniel Webster ran a 1,400-acre farm here from 1832 until his death in 1852 — his estate is preserved on Webster Street. Today the town is best known for three Atlantic- facing beach communities: Rexhame, Green Harbor, and Brant Rock. Brant Rock's massive granite seawall, built and rebuilt after the storms of 1898, 1978, and 1991, still takes the worst of every nor'easter that comes ashore.
